David Paulison, acting director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), said the damage from Hurricane Rita “is not as severe as we expected.”
Additionally, Paulison said that there were no reported deaths.
FEMA was severely criticized in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina because of its deplorable response to that storm.
Michael Brown, the FEMA director during Hurricane Katrina, stepped down amid the heavy criticism.
