Hurricane Rita made landfall on September 24, at 3:30 a.m. EDT, as a category 3 near the Taxas/Louisiana border, causing a 20-foor storm surge and up to 25 inches of rain, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Only two day ago, on September 22nd, Hurricane Rita was a Category 5 storm with sustained winds of 175 mph.
The storm weakened to a category 3 with sustained winds around 120 mph by the time it made landfall.
