Hurricane Rita Upgraded to Category 5

Hurricane Rita is now a massive category 5 hurricane

Hurricane Rita has grown tremendously in size and intensity over the past 36 hours and is now a category 5 hurricane.
Sustained winds have reached 165 mph.
Category 5 is the highest category for hurricanes, and they are relatively rare. There have only been about twenty category 5 hurricanes in the Atlantic basin in the recorded history of hurricanes.
And only three category 5 hurricanes have made landfall, with the last being the highly destructive Hurricane Andrew in 1992.
It is a strong possibility that Hurricane Rita will lose some of its power as it approaches land and will be downgraded to a category 4 (or lower).
Hurricane Katrina was also a category 5 when it was approaching the Gulf Coast, but was downgraded to a category 4 when it made landfall.
Our prayers go out to everyone who may be in harm’s way.
God bless you all – we are with you.
We love you.
